Drugs.com identifies allergic reactions as including hives, swelling of the face, lips tongue or throat, and difficulty breathing. Some people may also experience additional severe side effects. Blurred vision, swelling, negative or unusual behavior changes, confusion, depression, expectorating blood and bloody or tarry stools are all severe side effects which should be reported to a health care professional. In some cases, people also experience an elevation in blood pressure, causing a potential potassium imbalance, increased risk for seizures, chest pains, confusion and uneven heart rate.

Other Considerations

Merk.com advises to use this medication cautiously during pregnancy. Some animal research studies have shown Solu-medrol to have adverse effects on the unborn baby (fetus). Caution should also be taken by women who are breastfeeding, as a small percentage of this medication may be excreted in breast milk. Additionally, long-term use of Solu-medrol may trigger immunosuppression, which may result in an increase in secondary and latent (dormant) infections.
