Symptoms of Morgellons Disease

According to the Mayo Clinic, Morgellons disease is a mysterious disorder of the skin that consists of disfiguring sores and unusual sensations under the skin. The clinic indicates that the disease is not widely recognized in the medical field, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) experts actively investigate cases of Morgellons disease. Symptoms of the disease can vary, but there have been several primary effects identified through tracking reports of the skin condition.

Primary Skin Symptoms

The Morgellons Research Foundation (MRF) explains that non-healing skin lesions of abnormal form are a primary symptom of the disease. The Mayo Clinic elaborates that pain or intense itching can accompany the lesions. Some shapes of the lesions can be quite unusual, including white, blue, red or black fibers found in the lesions. The MRF identifies another key symptom of Morgellons disease as unusual crawling sensations on or under the skin that are often described as similar to insects moving, stinging or biting.

Other Primary Symptoms

The Mayo Clinic reports that other primary symptoms of Morgellons disease include joint and muscle pain, significant fatigue that interferes with daily life, an inability to concentrate, reduced short-term memory function and unusual changes in behavior.

Other Symptoms

Some symptoms that may accompany the primary effects of Morgellons disease include vision changes, pain the abdomen, diarrhea, vomiting, and changes in skin texture or in skin color, reports the Mayo Clinic. The clinic explains that Morgellons disease shares traits with other, more recognized ailments like attention-deficit disorder, chronic fatigue syndrome, Lyme disease, obsessive-compulsive disorder and parasitic delusions.
