How to Heal Acne Scars Quickly

Acne is caused by an excessive amount of oil in the skin, which typically occurs during adolescence. This oil can block the pores, which become inflamed and may erupt into pustules. Severe acne can also result in deep scarring that requires medical treatment. The quickest method of minimizing the appearance of acne scars is to inject a material known as a dermal filler under the skin.

Step 1

Consider short-term dermal fillers. The most widely used dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid or collagen. These materials have been in use longer than other dermal fillers and the long-term effects are relatively well understood. The primary disadvantage of these materials is that the effect is temporary.

Step 2

Choose longer-lasting dermal fillers. These materials include silicone and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). Silicone is considered a permanent dermal filler since it won't be absorbed by the body. However, it can migrate under the skin to form bumps called granulomas. PMMA has been in use for a much shorter period of time and is also considered to be permanent dermal filler. However, its long-term effects aren't yet well understood.

Step 3

Select fat as a dermal filler. You may also elect to use your own fat in some cases. This dermal filler carries little risk of tissue rejection but it will also require a liposuction procedure.

Step 4

Perform aftercare for a dermal injection. The dermatologist will inject a small amount of the dermal filler under the acne scars. You will frequently experience temporary side effects such as bruising and redness at the injection site. This may require supportive treatment such as pain medication and ice packs. You should be able to apply makeup to the injection site almost immediately, but you should refrain from exercise until the following day.
