During pregnancy, many expectant mothers research and agonize over every aspect of their baby's nursery. Furniture, clothing, car seats and strollers are items that parents spend a lot of time learning about. Diapering choices often fall by the wayside, with disposable diapers being the only option considered. Traditional disposable diapers often cause rashes and sensitivities due to the chemicals and artificial materials used in them. For parents who want the convenience of disposables but health benefits of cloth, natural disposable diapers exist.
Seventh Generation
Seventh Generation is a company that has been around for 20 years. A law of the Iroquois states that "In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations," hence Seventh Generation's name. Its diapers are made with wood pulp, not treated with chlorine bleach like regular diapers. The Seventh Generation website lists all of the ingredients: "sodium polyacrylate, polyolefin nonwoven fabric, adhesives, polyolefin film and synthetic rubber elastic strands". These diapers have a brownish tan color and are highly absorbent, even compared to traditional brands.
TenderCare
TenderCare disposable diapers are also a chlorine-free alternative, with a soft hypoallergenic inner lining. These diapers also contain wood pulp, which is harvested from renewable forests in the Scandinavian region. TenderCare diapers are perfume- and dye-free with leg gussets to contain messes.
Tushies
Tushies diapers are a little more bulky than other disposable diapers because their absorbency is derived from a blend of not only wood pulp, but cotton as well. Their diapers are chlorine-free; hydrogen peroxide is actually used to achieve the white color.
Nature Boy and Girl and Nature Babycare
Nature Boy and Girl diapers as well as Nature Babycare diapers are currently only available for sale online. They are a little different than the other leading natural brands because the outer waterproof layer is made out of a material containing corn. These diapers are compostable and have no perfumes, dyes or bleaching agents. These diapers are very thin and soft making them very comfortable for babies to wear.
