Vicks Sinex Nasal Spray is a medication used to treat nasal congestion. According to Drugs.com the active ingredient is phenylephrine, a decongestant that reduces inflammation of the blood vessels in the nasal passages. Nasal congestion is caused by the swelling of these blood vessels. There are many common irritants that lead to congestion including allergies, the common cold or the flu. Drugs.com also suggests Vicks Sinex Nasal Spray can be used to treat the congestion of the tubes that drain fluid from the inner ears. As with any medication, Vicks Sinex Nasal Spray has the risk of side effects.
Less Serious Side Effects
According to Drugs.com, there are only a few mild side effects of Vicks Sinex Nasal Spray including headache, dizziness, excitability, restlessness, upset stomach or mild sleep problems. Vicks.com also points out that temporary burning, stinging, sneezing or an increase in nasal discharge may occur.
Serious Side Effects
Any serious side effects should be treated by a doctor immediately, explains Drugs.com. These effects include severe dizziness, nervousness, insomnia or unusual thoughts or behavior. This is especially true if an individual has thoughts of harming himself or of suicide. Individuals who feel as if they may pass out, have a rapid heartbeat, pounding heartbeat or irregular heart rate should seek medical attention. Other serious effects reported by Drugs.com include tremors, numbness or tingling in the hands and feet, cold hands or feet or urinating infrequently or not at all. There is also the risk of allergic reaction which can cause trouble breathing, chest pain, hives or unusual swelling of the face.
