How to Keep My Hair Piece in Place

Wearing a hair piece can give you extra confidence when you are balding or losing your hair, but it can also cause problems when you feel that it isn't as secure as you want it to be. Losing your hair piece when being active is embarrassing, so make sure that your hair piece stays secure by applying an adhesive to the underside of the piece. You can buy hair piece adhesive tape and liquid at beauty supply stores, and they're easy to apply and wash off when you are ready to remove your hair piece.

Tape Strip Adhesive

Step 1

Wash and dry your scalp so that is clean, and free of any oil or moisture that would cause the tape to slide or not adhere well.

Step 2

Turn the hair piece over and find the adhesive areas. These ares will have a layer of plastic that adhesive can stick to more easily. You may find that you have to lift areas of the hair to find the plastic strips.

Step 3

Remove the protective backing from one side of the double-sided tape. To do this, find the corner of the tape and carefully peel the backing away. Take care to not allow the tape to become tangled on itself.

Step 4

Apply the tape to the adhesive areas on the hair piece and press down firmly to secure. Flip the hair piece over and position on your head. Press the hair piece down on your head to keep it in place.

Liquid Adhesive

Step 1

Wash and dry your scalp so that your skin is clean and free of oil and moisture. This will help the adhesive to stick.

Step 2

Remove the brush from the liquid adhesive bottle, and turn the hair piece over. Find the designated adhesive strips, which are strips of plastic on the underside of the hair piece.

Step 3

Brush a thin layer of liquid adhesive along the plastic strips. Don't over-apply, as more adhesive will result in a less-tacky glue and it won't adhere as well.

Step 4

Flip the hair piece over and place it on your head. Hold it tightly on your head for at least two minutes while the adhesive dries and secure the hair piece to your head to keep it in place.
