A chore list for a teenager is typically different than a chore list for a younger child. However, some chores could be the same. For example, "clean room" may be an item on the chore list with slightly different expectations. Whereas a toddler may clean the bedroom by picking up toys, a teenager may be expected to dust furniture, vacuum the carpet or clean windows. Chore lists for teenagers should be reviewed with parents so that everyone understands the expectations.
Morning Chores
Chores to be performed in the morning can include tasks such as clearing the breakfast table, starting the dishwasher and feeding pets. If there are younger siblings, a teenager's chore list may include getting the younger siblings off to school safely with their school gear. If the parents are off to work early, another chore may be to ensure the house is safely locked up after everyone leaves.
Evening Chores
Evening chores could include tasks such as doing homework, loading the clothes dryer and putting away dishes from the dishwasher. Feeding pets may be added as an evening chore. Other potential evening chores depend on the household but may include taking out the trash and cleaning up any areas of the home where snacks were eaten.
Weekend Chores
Weekend chore lists can include tasks such as washing floors and cleaning bathrooms. Another weekend chore could be cleaning the family vehicle. If there are multiple teenagers in the household, parents can ask if they wish to alternate weeks on some weekly chores. If these chores are alternated, the list should be duly noted so that everyone knows the schedule.
Winter Chores
Depending on local weather conditions, clearing driveways and sidewalks of snow could be a task on the winter chore list. Winter chores could also consist of replenishing woodpiles, if applicable to the household. Weatherproofing the home could be another winter chore.
Summer Chores
Yard work such as mowing the yard could be a task on a summer weekly chore list, as well as trimming hedges, pruning trees and weeding gardens. Household repairs can also be added to a summer chore list.
