Grandmothers are important members of the family who supply an enormous amount of memories for growing children. They often help to spoil their grandchildren by making them special treats and buying gifts for them. During the holidays or birthdays, finding unique gifts for grandmothers can be a challenge, but there are a few simple gift ideas that will consistently please a loving grandmother.
Handmade Gifts
Most grandmothers will tell you that they love handmade or homemade gifts from their grandchildren. Taking a child’s art and framing it with a saying such as “I love you” can warm a grandmother’s heart. If you have a grandmother who likes to garden, try making a homemade bird house or bird feeder for her. Also, making a stepping stone for the garden using the child's handprints can be a nice way to commemorate a particular age of the child.
Special Ornaments
Ornaments are always a wonderful gift for a child to give to a grandmother. It can be easy to paint glass ornaments or make an ornament out of construction paper. You can even make cookie ornaments from dough made of applesauce and cinnamon. These can then be cut out using a cookie cutter and dried in the oven (see McCormick for a recipe). If making something from scratch is not for you, then go to your local craft store. Most every craft store has ornaments that can be purchased and easily painted using paint or magic markers.

All grandmothers love pictures of their grandchildren. Have photos taken at a photo studio or simply take some photos at home and blow them up to make larger prints. Framing these photos in a beautiful frame can be a great way to show appreciation and love to a grandmother. Also, with the advance of the digital photo age, you can take a photo and make a sweatshirt, t-shirt, mug, plate and even a yearly calendar for your grandma. Some places such as Wal-Mart offer various patterns and items upon which you can simply download a picture.
