Runners rely heavily upon supportive footwear to enhance performance and comfort and most importantly, avoid injury. The affliction of flat feet or overpronation can render many entirely unable to run because the pain, discomfort and subsequent injuries to knees, shins, hip and even lower back can be tremendous. Thus, the tried and true running shoes for the flat-footed runner can liberate you and make roads and trails your domain once again. Many runners will still need to use orthotics in any running shoes. Here's to happy, healthy, comfortable running, flat feet and all.
Mizuno Wave Renegade 4
This sneaker provides excellent motion control, which is paramount for flat-footed runners. Giving you more support under the arch of your foot as well as a wider base, it helps to avoid the inward roll that can otherwise lead to twisted ankles and similar injuries. The Mizuno Wave Renegade 4 fits snugly on the foot and the extra cushioning provides a smooth ride.
Brooks Addiction 8.0
Brooks created the 8.0 as the "new and improved" version of its Addiction running shoe. Research and craftsmanship went into the 8.0, producing a running shoe you can call the gold standard for the flat-footed. It offers superior comfort, light weight, excellent traction and breathable materials. If your feet aren't truly flat, however, and you just want a little extra support, this isn't the shoe for you. The stability soles might feel a bit like running on platforms. For those runners in need of the extra stability, though, the Addiction 8.0 does deliver.
Asics Gel GT-2140
Asics doesn't usually specialize in stability and support running shoes, but the GT-2140 is an exception. Also a good shoe for mild overpronators, this shoe is deceptive because it doesn't read like a special running shoe or have the bulky, orthopedic look flat-footed runners have become accustomed to expect in a shoe of this genre. This running shoe provides all of the stability, comfort and support of its counterparts while sporting a chic image that even comes in a black and silver model.
