Everyone likes soft skin, but liking it and having it are two different things. To get rid of rough or dry skin and replace it with soft skin, you'll need to follow a skin care regimen to maintain and promote healthy skin. There are a few basic steps to follow to get soft skin, and you'll need to take a few minutes each day to get soft skin and keep it healthy and wrinkle-free. You won't have to spend a lot on the basic components of a skin care system, and they'll help keep your skin smooth for years.
Step 1
Clean your skin every day by gently washing in a tub or shower, or by taking a quick sponge bath on those days you're running late. Gently cleanse the skin with warm water. You don't have to wash with soap every day, but the daily dose of water through cleansing will help keep skin hydrated and clean. Don't forget to drink plenty of water every day (at least 68 ounces) to help hydrate skin cells and keep them nourished, plump and healthy.
Step 2
Exfoliate your skin at least once a week to remove dead and rough skin. This will keep pores open and able to breathe and absorb moisture. Use a loofah or exfoliating scrub for your body, and a more gentle exfoliating scrub for your face.
Step 3
Gently pat the skin dry after cleansing .
Step 4
Apply moisturizer or lotion daily, especially in dry weather. This helps keep skin soft and supple. Applying moisturizer while your skin is still slightly damp will help the skin absorb the lotion. Apply extra lotion to the elbows and knees, as well as hands and feet.
Step 5
Wear sunscreen when outdoors, which helps prevent dryness or rough skin caused by cell damage. Apply lotion with a minimum of SPF 15 on exposed areas of skin daily. Use a higher SPF if you plan on going to the beach or engaging in outdoor sports or events.
Step 6
Drink plenty of water every day--at least 68 oz.--to help hydrate skin cells and keep them nourished, plump and healthy.
