The Weslo company is a subsidiary of Weider. Weslo treadmills are inexpensive and easy to use. Manual treadmills are started simply by beginning to run or walk because there is no cord to plug in or safety key to insert. Electric treadmills by Weslo do require a few steps to turn them on and begin their use. As with any exercise, you should get approval from your doctor before using any sort of exercise equipment.
Step 1
Plug in the treadmill. Find an outlet with a 12-amp grounded circuit if you have an older model Cadence treadmill. Plug the treadmill into a surge protector and then plug that into an outlet with a 15-amp capacity for a newer model like the Cadence 925. Consult an electrician if you are unsure if your outlet is properly grounded.
Step 2
Stand on the grip tape on the foot rails, not on the belt of the treadmill. Hold the handrails for balance.
Step 3
Insert the safety key or card into the slot on the console. Use a credit card in place of the safety card if you have an older treadmill like the Cadence 10.0 model. Attach the key clip to your clothing at your waist. Step back until the safety key is pulled out of its slot. Adjust the length of the cord if necessary so that the key is pulled out before you reach the end of the treadmill deck. This is important so that the treadmill will be turned off before you fall off the treadmill. Step back onto the foot rails.
Step 4
Press the "On" switch down or slide the speed control to the "Reset" position. Check that there are no children nearby because the manual recommends that small children be kept away from the treadmill before you start it.
Step 5
Increase the speed by pressing up on the "Speed" button or turning the speed control knob. Step onto the belt as it begins to move at the speed of 1 mph. Stand up straight, tuck your hips and squeeze your abs. Look straight ahead and walk.
Tips and Warnings
- Wear appropriate running or walking shoes when starting the treadmill. A sales associate at your local sporting goods store should be able to help you select the correct shoe, but a store that caters exclusively to running may be able to better assist you in selecting the best shoe for you.
- Loose clothing can get caught when using the treadmill. Be sure to wear clothes that fit comfortably but that do not hang close to the walking belt.
