Although acne can effect people of all ages, those experiencing hormonal surges will often develop more profuse and difficult-to-eliminate acne breakouts. To overcome acne permanently, you should follow a skin care routine that cleans the skin without irritating it, dries up breakouts without inflaming the skin and keeps the face properly hydrated. By following the proper routine, the skin will become clear and will remain that way.
Step 1
Wash the face using a soap formulated for people with sensitive skin. Wet the skin and then lather the hands with the soap. Use the hands to spread the lather gently around the face and rinse the skin with water. Do not scrub the skin because this can cause irritation and exacerbate acne. Repeat twice per day. Using a sensitive skin soap will keep the skin sufficiently clean, without causing the irritation or inflammation that are experienced from the chemical ingredients that are in standard soaps and cleansers.
Step 2
Treat acne breakouts by using a gentle benzoyl peroxide cream. Squeeze a pea-sized amount of a 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide cream onto the fingers; smooth the cream onto clean skin. Use the fingertips to glide the cream gently around the face until it has soaked in. Repeat twice per day after washing the face. Using a lower concentration benzoyl peroxide cream will kill off acne-causing bacteria and dry up active acne pustules without causing damage to the skin like the higher-strength creams do, such as redness, peeling or burning.
Step 3
Keep the skin moist and supple by properly hydrating it with an oil-free lotion designed for sensitive skin types. Spread a dime-sized amount of lotion onto the skin, massaging it in gently. Repeat every time benzoyl peroxide is used, at least twice per day. Any time a benzoyl peroxide cream is used, some type of dryness can occur. To avoid this--and to keep the skin soft as well as clear--use a lotion that is oil-free and formulated without harsh chemicals or additives that could irritate or clog the skin's pores.
