How to Reduce Wrinkles on the Lips

Besides wrinkles and fine lines that appear around the mouth, wrinkles on your lips can become visible as well. Wrinkles occur as a result of a loss of collagen and elastin in the skin. Although aging can cause wrinkles to appear, smoking and sun exposure can bring on wrinkles prematurely. You can try both at-home treatments and medical procedures to get rid of wrinkles on the lips.

Step 1

Change your diet. Wrinkles on the lips can be improved by adding more omega-3 fatty acids to the diet. These nutrients can help keep the skin well nourished and wrinkle free. The best source of omega-3 fatty acids is fish, including herring, salmon and sardines.

Step 2

Use an over-the-counter lip plumping product. Several manufacturers make lip plumpers that have a dual purpose: They both plump the lips and reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the lips. Some brands include Perricone Lip Plumper and MD Skincare Serious Lip Treatment.

Step 3

Apply a moisturizing lip balm to the lips. Dried-out lips can cause wrinkles to be more noticeable. Keeping the lips well moisturized can also prevent lip wrinkles from forming. ChapStick makes a moisturizing lip balm with built-in sunscreen. You can also rub a small amount of moisturizing lotion on the lips if you don't have a balm available.

Step 4

Make an appointment with a plastic surgeon or cosmetic dermatologist to discuss potential treatment options. A doctor can go over the potential treatments to get rid of wrinkles on the lips. Injections can be considered as a way to treat wrinkles on the lips. An injectable filler, like collagen, can plump the lips in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The results of lip augmentation are not permanent, and a repeat injection will be needed to maintain results after several months.
