How to Apply a Hair Piece Closure

Hair piece closures let you cover up bare spots on your head and wear a more realistic hair piece that lets you part your hair the way you want to. They work by making cornrows out of existing hair on the head and using it as an anchor. Closures are attached to the head with thread sewn through the cornrows. The base of the hair piece is made to look similar to your scalp, making closures one of the most passable forms of hair coverings out there.

Step 1

Comb your hair straight back and tie small cornrows or very tight braids from your hair going back. The braids should be small and as flat as possible.

Step 2

Set the closure on top of your head so that it covers the crown of your head.

Step 3

Thread the sewing needle with thread and sew through the closure and the cornrows, starting at the outside of the hair closure and working your way into the middle. Be sure not to pin any hair on the closure down, as this will prevent you from styling your hair properly and will make the hair piece look fake. Work your way in circles from the outside of the hair piece to the center.

Step 4

Tie a small knot in the thread as close to the surface of the closure as you can and cut off an extraneous thread.

Tips and Warnings

  • Use a thread that closely resembles your hair color to make it look more realistic.
