As the skin ages, it can become overly dry and wrinkled, causing the skin to appear tired and sallow. Luckily, there are a few home treatments that can be applied to help improve the quality and texture of the skin, and help keep the skin hydrated. This regimen cleanses the skin without drying soaps, buffs away dead skin cells to reveal fresh skin underneath, and deeply moisturizes the skin to maintain hydration levels in the face.
Step 1
Cleanse the skin with oil instead of soap. Soap can be overly drying to the skin and can cause irritation and inflammation, which exacerbates wrinkles. Using an oil to cleanse the skin that does not clog the pores will keep the skin clean while keeping moisture in as well.
Step 2
Pour 2 Tbsp. of jojoba oil into your hands, then rub the oil between your hands to evenly distribute it. Press the oil onto the face, then use the fingertips to massage the oil into the skin. After a few minutes, wipe off the oil using a hot washcloth. You can use oil to cleanse the skin as often as you would use soap, typically twice per day.
Step 3
Remove dead skin by exfoliating with a gentle scrub. Exfoliation buffs away dead skin cells that can cause the skin to appear more sallow and dry. Once the dead skin cells are removed, your face will appear more fresh and youthful.
Step 4
Combine 1 Tbsp. of baking soda with 1 Tbsp. of honey in a small bowl. Spread the baking soda and honey scrub onto your skin, and gently rub it around for at least two minutes. After the allotted time has elapsed, rinse off the scrub with warm water. An exfoliating scrub can be used to remove dead skin two or three times per week.
Step 5
Apply a rose hip oatmeal mask. Rose hip oil is a deeply hydrating oil frequently used in natural anti-wrinkle creams, and can be combined with nutrient-rich oatmeal to create a moisturizing mask. In a bowl, combine 1 cup of boiling water with 1/2 cup of raw oats. Let the mixture cool, then add in 1 tsp. of rose hip oil, mixing it in thoroughly. Spread the mask onto the skin, and allow it to remain there for at least 10 minutes. Rinse off the rose hip oatmeal mask with warm water, and repeat up to five times per week to deeply hydrate the skin.
