How to Lose Cellulite in a Healthy Way

While there are no magical pills or treatments that will help you get rid of cellulite in one try, you can try several different avenues to smooth over your skin and diminish the presence of cellulite. For best results, it is best to combine a series of different approaches and to make sure you spend at least a few weeks on them, even if no results are seen at first.

Step 1

Lose weight. Cellulite is fat that accumulates under the skin and, while it is true that both thin and overweight people can suffer from it, you are less likely to have cellulite if your total body fat percentage is low. Instead of crash dieting, focus on healthy eating that avoids fast food and high-calorie high-sugar items.

Step 2

Start a regular exercise program. Your two goals are to lose body fat and to increase muscle tone. The first one can be achieved through cardio training. Ideally, this means you will walk slowly but intensely. An example might be walking on an incline, rather than running on the treadmill. The second can be achieved by following a resistance and weight training program that works the hips, buttocks and thighs. Aim for at least three workouts a week, on alternating days.

Step 3

Try herbs that improve circulation. This would improve the functioning of your lymphatic system, clear toxins from the area and smooth out the skin, making cellulite less noticeable. Some herbs to try include cayenne pepper and gingko biloba. You can increase the results by brushing the area with a bristle body brush while you are showering.

Step 4

Add a multivitamin to your daily regime, as well as a supplement of omega-3 fatty acids. These will help improve the health of your skin and diminish marks and roughness that can make cellulite even more apparent.

Step 5

Drink at least 10 glasses of water a day to help your body flush out toxins released during brushing and exercise. Dehydration also leads to bloating because the body retains as much water as possible. The more you drink, the more your body flushes out.

Step 6

Consider endermologie, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved treatment to reduce cellulite. This is basically a massage done with a machine that suctions and rolls over the skin. You will need at least six treatments to start seeing results; a course of 14 to 28 treatments is recommended for most people.

Things You'll Need

  • Cayenne pepper
  • Gingko biloba
  • Bristle body brush
  • Multivitamin
  • Omega-3 fatty acids supplement
