A posture collar is a piece of fetish equipment that is often used by bondage and discipline enthusiasts. The collar fits around the neck and can be used by a dominant to lead around a submissive partner. The collar may have rings or studs on the outside of it but it should not have any protrusions on the inside.

Size

The posture is usually made of leather about two inches thick. Make sure the posture or training collar is big enough to fit comfortably on the submissive's neck. While it may appear snug and tight when looking at it from the outside, there should not be anything worn around the neck that restricts the collared individual's ability to breathe. When in the middle of a scene, it might be difficult for the individual to indicate she is having difficulty breathing. Test it out ahead of time. If you cannot slip two fingers between your neck and the collar when you are wearing it, it is too small and you should not engage in any play with it.

High Posture Collars

If the posture collar is put on too tightly, it can also restrict your ability to move your neck. While this can be one of the aims of the collar--restricting the submissive's ability to move unless directed to by the dominant--it can cause stiff and sore neck muscles if it is kept on for too long. Participants should use "safe" words to indicate if there is any kind of problem, so that the activity comes to a halt.

Bacterial infection

All bondage equipment should be kept clean after every use. This includes a posture collar. Equipment that is not cleaned well could serve as a home for bacteria that could end up living on the equipment and causing problems for the wearer days or weeks later. This issue can be eliminated by using a leather cleaner and alcohol to make sure the collar is not host to any disease-causing germs.
