Restasis Eye Drop Solution is the brand name of cyclosporine, an immunosuppressive agent, according to Drugs.com. It is used to reduce the inflammation and dryness associated with inflammation in the eye. There may be other purposes for this drug, as indicated by your doctor. As with any medication, Restasis has the risk of side effects but Drugs.com reports that few negative effects have been associated with the use of this medication.

Common Side Effects

The most commonly occurring side effects with the use of Restasis are associated with the application of the eye drops. This includes burning, stinging or tearing as the drops touch the eye. Allergan.com reports that this occurs in about 17 percent of patients.

Negative Effects

Drugs.com reports the possibility of blurred vision, itching or the feeling that something is in the eye with the use of Restasis. These effects should be reported to a doctor for follow-up, but they are not usually considered to be serious.

Rare Complications

As with any medication, there is the risk of allergy to Restasis. Symptoms of this can be serious and include hives, trouble breathing, chest tightening, swelling of the mouth, swelling of the lips, swelling of the face or the tongue. Drugs.com also warns of progressive symptoms such as worsening of the eye symptoms for which Restasis is being prescribed. This includes itching, burning, stinging, irritation or redness, according to Drugs.com. Patients should also report blurred vision that does not improve, eye discharge, excessive tearing of the eyes, pain in the eyes or swelling.
