How to Do a Body Lift

Body lifts provide a way to tighten loose skin after major weight loss. Ideal candidates are those who have undergone gastric bypass surgery or Lap-Band surgery a year or more before the scheduled lift. Body lifts are also ideal for those who have kept their weight steady for six months to a year, and are following a healthy diet plan and regular exercise. These lifts are performed in a hospital and are a major surgical procedure, requiring weeks of recovery time.

Step 1

Attend all necessary training involved with body lift procedure. Five week courses are mandatory for all plastic surgeons who wish to perform this type of surgery.

Step 2

Make an incision above the outer thighs and buttocks and separate the skin on the thighs. Pull the skin to a desirable tension and remove the excess skin. Apply sutures to the incision to close.

Step 3

Make a horizontal incision at the top of the bikini line in the pubic area. Remove the tissue between the pubic muscle and navel.

Step 4

Separate the skin between the belly button and middle of the ribcage and suction out the fat deposits using the liposuction method.

Step 5

Remove the excess skin and tighten the abdominal muscle with sutures. Suture the skin to the pubic bikini line incision and return the navel to its original position.

Step 6

Make an incision along the bra line and remove any excess skin . Pull the incision tightly and close it with sutures. Suction any back fat and slenderize the waist using liposuction.
