When the skin produces acne breakouts, the can cause the face to become irritated and inflamed, and can leave behind unsightly scar tissue. Acne scars can be difficult to get rid of, and can sometimes remain on the skin for weeks, if not months, after the active acne pustules has cleared. When attempting to get rid of acne scarring, it is necessary to follow a regimen that softens dead scarred skin, removes the scarred skin using a mild exfoliating scrub, and tones the skin with a substance high in vitamin C.
Step 1
Soften scarred skin by applying an oil facial steam. Pour around 1 tbsp. of castor oil into the palms of your hands, and spread the oil around your face. Massage the oil into your skin using rhythmic, circular motions with the fingers. After two minutes of massage, leave the oil to sit on the skin. After another two minutes, lean over a bowl filled with hot, steaming water, and cover the head with a towel. This will force the steam to billow over the skin to further soften the scar tissue. After five to seven minutes has passed, lift your head and wipe off the castor oil with a damp washcloth. Castor oil is a non-comedogenic oil that will soften the skin without clogging the pores. Use an oil facial steam three or four times per week to soften the skin.
Step 2
Remove scarred skin by applying a mild exfoliating skin scrub, such as baking soda. Pour 2 tbsp. of baking soda into the palm of the hand, and drizzle 1 tbsp. of water into it, mixing it thoroughly. Spread the baking soda paste onto the skin, and use your fingertips to gently rub it around in circular movements. After one or two minutes, rinse off the skin using warm water. Use a baking soda mask three to four times a week after softening the skin with an oil facial steam.
Step 3
Stimulate new skin growth by applying a toner high in vitamin C, which supports the skin cells in producing fresh, evenly balanced skin. Pour 8 oz. of concentrated lemon juice, which is very high in vitamin C, into an empty, clean spray bottle. Spray the lemon juice onto your skin liberally after exfoliation, to tone the skin. Let the juice dry onto your skin. Use a lemon juice toner three or four times a week after exfoliating the skin.
