How to Remove Eczema Scars

Eczema is a skin condition that is characterized by the appearance of pink to red patches of skin that can be extremely itchy and irritated. The itching resulting from an eczema flare-up can be so intense that it can cause the skin to become discolored and scarred. This skin is typically more dry and tough than the surrounding skin, and can be difficult to remove. To eliminate scars caused by itchy eczema, it is important to loosen the discolored skin, exfoliate the area and apply vitamin C to rebuild new skin cells.

Step 1

Loosen discolored eczema scars by applying olive oil and steam to the skin. Spread 2 to 3 tbsp. of olive oil onto the area that is affected by the eczema scars. Use your fingertips into massage the oil into the skin, using a deep pressure and circular movements. After five minutes, cover the skin with a steaming hot washcloth, and allow it to sit on the skin until it cools. Use the wet washcloth to wipe away the remaining olive oil. The olive oil and steam soften and loosen the eczema scar tissue, allowing it to be removed more easily. Apply olive oil and steam up to three times a week to loosen eczema scarring.

Step 2

Exfoliate the scarred skin by applying a baking soda scrub. Pour 3 tbsp. of baking soda into a bowl, and mix into it 1 tbsp. of water. Use your fingers to spread the baking soda paste onto the area softened by the olive oil. Gently rub the baking soda paste around the skin for two to three minutes, then rinse off the area well with water. The baking soda paste gently removes the dead and scarred skin that has been softened by the olive oil. Apply a baking soda scrub up to three times a week to remove dead skin cells from eczema scarring.

Step 3

Rebuild new skin cells and increase skin cell turnover by applying a vitamin C compress. Soak a washcloth in concentrated lemon juice, then drape the washcloth onto the area that has been exfoliated. Allow the lemon juice-soaked washcloth to remain on the area for at least 10 minutes, then remove the cloth to let the skin dry. The vitamin C increases skin cell turnover, which helps slough away discolored skin, while supporting new skin cells in developing. Apply a vitamin C compress up to three times a week to rebuild new skin cells.
