Trinessa is a type of oral contraceptive used for the prevention of pregnancy. It is the generic form of Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Trinessa is a combination birth control pill. It contains both estrogenic (having an action similar to estrogen) and progestational (relating to the actions of progesterone) compounds as well as some other inactive ingredients.
Norgestimate
Norgestimate is a form of synthetic progesterone. It works by suppressing ovulation and altering the endometrium and cervical mucous to prevent pregnancy.
Ethinyl Estradiol
Ethinyl Estradiol is a bio-active estrogen, which is used in almost all combination birth control pills. This medication prevents the ovaries from releasing eggs, while altering cervical mucous and the endometrium.
Inactive Ingredients
Some of the inactive ingredients in Trinessa include lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, titanium dioxide, polyethylene glycol, FD&C Blue No. 2 Aluminum Lake, pre-gelatinized starch, and D&C Yellow No. 10 Aluminum Lake. These inactive ingredients are not known to cause any additional side effects.
