Home Remedy for Removing Acne Scars

Removing acne scars can be difficult, especially when the scarred tissue is tougher and drier than the rest of the skin. To remove acne scars effectively at home, you need to soften the scarred tissues, scrub off the softened skin, and soak the skin in a substance high in vitamin C to help build new skin cells. If you follow this routine of softening, exfoliating and toning two or three times a day, acne scars and skin discolorations will diminish much faster than they normally would.

Step 1

Soften scarred tissues by applying an olive oil facial to the affected skin. Smooth 2 tbsp. olive oil onto the skin, and work it into the areas with acne scarring. Massage it in using small circles and deep pressure. After a few minutes, fill a bowl with nearly boiling water. Lean so your head is 12 to 18 inches over the bowl, and cover your head with a towel. This will direct the steam toward your face, further loosening and softening the skin. After 5 to 10 minutes, rinse well with water and use a damp washcloth to remove the remaining oil.

Step 2

Scrub off the softened skin using a baking soda exfoliant. Make a paste of 2 tbsp. baking soda and 1 tbsp. water. Spread the paste onto the skin, and use your fingers to gently massage it in for a couple of minutes. Leave the paste on for another two minutes, which will allow the baking soda with its alkalinity to further slough off dead and discolored skin. Then rinse with water.

Step 3

Build new skin cells by applying a substance high in vitamin C, which will help promote new skin cell growth. Pour 6 to 8 oz. lemon juice into a clean, dry spray bottle. Spray well, then either wash the lemon juice mixture off or allow it to air dry.
