Taking care of your skin can be a complicated process. If you have problems like dry skin, acne or rosacea, you'll need to add specific treatments to your daily cleansing. Likewise, if you have skin allergies, you'll need to avoid certain products. Even so, you can generally take care of your skin by using gentle products formulated for sensitive skin and paying attention to what worsens your problem areas.
Sunscreen
Sunscreen is a must for adequate skin care. Wear an oil-free sunblock that is at least SPF 15 every day when going outside. You can wear it under your makeup or infused in your makeup, depending on your preferences.
Daily Cleansing
It's important to wash your skin every morning and night to remove excess oil, dead skin cells and dirt that has accumulated during the day. Use a gentle cleanser that is oil-free and contains salicylic acid.
Toner
Remove excess dirt by using an alcohol-free toner morning and night. Put some of the toner on a cotton ball and wipe over your entire face. This can also work to tighten the pores and give your face more of a clean feeling.
Moisturizer
Moisturize your skin each day using an oil-free formula. You don't want to clog pores, but at the same time, moisturizing is essential for keeping your skin hydrated, preventing wrinkles and improving your skin's appearance.
Treating Problem Areas
If you have acne, dry skin or other skin problems, use an appropriate treatment. For instance, acne sufferers should use products that contain benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid or glycolic acid to treat blemishes or seek out a prescription-strength treatment from a dermatologist if suffering from cysts. If you have dry skin, thick emolient creams are recommended and should be applied within minutes of getting out of the shower. Targeted skin care is the best way to keep your skin looking healthy and youthful for longer.
