Beauty Treatments for Men

According to the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology, men are increasingly aware of their appearance and taking advantage of a wide range of beauty treatments designed for men. European men have embraced the spa and beauty treatment arena. While American men may be slower to embrace the treatments, salons that provide beauty treatment for men are becoming a viable alternative for men's grooming.

Waxing

Men use waxing for hair removal on their faces, backs and necks. Some men go in for waxing on their chest, arms or legs. Waxing also can be used on men to help resolve errant eyebrow hairs and style the eyebrows neatly. After thoroughly washing the area, the hair is trimmed as close as possible, typically about 3/10 inch. A warm wax is then placed over the area and left to dry. The hairs are then pulled out when the wax is removed. Tea tree oil is applied following the procedure to soothe the skin. Waxing slows hair growth and can help men avoid daily shaving. A wax job can last for up to eight weeks.

Facials

More men are having facials, often after trying out a woman's products and appreciating the results. A facial can help to detoxify the skin and leave a clear complexion. Chlorophyll in facial masks stimulates the cells, while clay masks can help to tighten the skin and minimize large pores, reducing oily sheen. Vitamins and antioxidants used in some facials can help to regenerate skin cells and leave a more youthful appearance. Facials are available that can help even skin tone and reduce acne and other facial imperfections. Most facials include a massage, which also can help to invigorate the skin.

Manicures

A professional manicure is being offered at more barbershops as men embrace the pampering. Not only does a manicure feel good, it can be helpful in keeping a man well groomed and polished. A manicure involves cutting and trimming the nails. The nails are then shaped and excess cuticles cut off. A man can have lotion rubbed into his nails and have them buffed to a natural, healthy shine. Typically the hands and fingers are massaged gently following a professional manicure. The same process can work on the feet, as more men embrace the pedicure to keep their toenails trimmed and healthy.
