Signs of an Affair and Infidelity

The thought that your spouse or significant other could be having an affair is never a comforting thought. You may wonder if the differences you notice are all in your head of if you are truly growing apart. Because accusing him or even asking him if he is seeing someone else can be an extreme measure, it's important to consider the differences that you have noticed in your significant other.

Increased Concern for Appearance

If your significant other has never cared about clothing or grooming before but suddenly seems very concerned with "dressing to impress," this could be a sign he is having an affair. The same is true for if he seems to have a new item or favorite item that he inexplicably wears or carries often. For example, if your husband seems to be wearing a new sweater you have never seen him wear, this could be a sign the sweater is someone else's favorite item.

Technology Becomes Taboo

If your wife used to leave her cell phone lying around or would casually let you check it, yet now guards it like Fort Knox, this could be a sign of infidelity. Other signs include changed passwords or protection of an e-mail or social networking site account. Scooping up a phone bill before you have a chance to review it could be a further indicator of suspicious activity.

Restlessness

If your partner gives off the aura of wishing he were somewhere else or seems disinterested in activities you used to enjoy doing together, these are common infidelity signals. Failure to initiate or pulling away from close contact, such as holding hands or kissing, can also raise suspicion.

Unconfirmed Stories

If your partner seems to be spending a significant amount of extra time at the job or with friends on a regular basis, this could be a sign of something more than additional work. An extra flag can be raised if the appointment seems to be standing, such as always working late on a Tuesday on a weekly basis. Extra work trips that don't put added miles on the car or other locations on your credit card bill could be another sign.

Generally Disinterested

If your spouse doesn't seem to put forth the same effort in the relationship and family, and he doesn't seem to care about resolving arguments, this could be a sign of infidelity. Those who are interested in their relationship typically show a desire to patch things up while those who are losing interest may think conflict resolution makes little difference.
