How to Reduce Puffy Eyelids

When the eyelids are puffy, it can make the entire complexion appear sunken, and can add years onto the face. Puffy eyelids can also cast a shadow underneath the eyes, causing a darkening effect that makes the face look more tired. To reduce the swelling of eyelids, you can use a regimen to cool the eyelids, and treat them with tannins and juices that reduce inflammation. By using these methods regularly, eyelid puffiness can be significantly reduced over time.

Step 1

Place two ice cubes under the eyes after the skin has been cleansed, and allow them to remain there for at least two minutes. Remove the ice cubes, and either let the skin air dry or dab it dry with a soft towel. If the ice is too difficult to hold, wrap them in a thin cloth, or use an ice pack wrapped in a cloth. Use ice to reduce inflammation once a day.

Step 2

Moisten two black tea bags, and drape them over the eyes, after icing them, keeping the eye looking upward to allow the tea bags to lay mainly underneath the eyes. Allow the tea bags to remain on the eyes for at least 10 minutes, then remove them and rinse the area with cool water. Pat the area dry with a towel. Black tea contains a substance called tannin, which reduces inflammation and swelling when applied to the skin. You can use back tea bags once a day to reduce puffiness.

Step 3

Slice a fresh cucumber that has been refrigerated into 1/8-inch slices. Look upward to allow the lower part of the eyelids to be exposed, then place the cucumber slices over the entire eye area. Let the cucumber slices remain on the eyelids for at least 10 minutes, then remove them and let the skin air dry. Cucumbers have a powerful anti-inflammatory effect on the skin, and you can use them once a day after the tea bags.
