The Best Treatment for Damaged Hair

Hair can be damaged by using stripping shampoos or from styling stress, such as overdrying with a hairdryer, curling irons, or not protecting from sun, heat and wind. The result is hair that may have split ends that needs to be properly shampooed, conditioned and styled to prevent further damage. Use hair products designed for dry or damaged hair. You can also use an at-home hair mask, made with natural ingredients. Then, follow the mask with a shampoo, appropriate conditioner and gentle handling. If you have too many split ends, see your stylist for a trim to remove them.

Step 1

Prepare the hair treatment by mixing in a small stainless steel bowl, two small eggs, 1/2 cup of aloe vera juice and the juice of half of a small lemon. Wet your hair and apply the mixture to your hair and scalp. Massage it thoroughly your hair. The egg yolks provide protein, the lemon juice will remove excess hair conditioner that makes hair limp and aloe vera juice will help mend split ends and help condition hair.

Step 2

Shampoo with a gentle shampoo made with lavender essential oil, wheat proteins or even a plain, unscented gentle shampoo made from castille liquid soap. Use warm but not hot water to shampoo and rinse with cooler water to get the hair follicles to lie flat, giving hair a healthier and thicker appearance. Condition hair and allow conditioner to remain in your hair for at least two minutes before rinsing out completely.

Step 3

Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle hair. If you have curly hair, use your hands or a wide pick to remove any tangles. Towel dry as much as you can before doing so. Pat hair dry rather than rubbing it.

Step 4

Spray on a heat-protectant spray if you plan to blow dry your hair. Dry with a hairdryer at the lowest heat until your hair is just dry.

Step 5

Apply a leave-in conditioner or comb a small amount of jojoba oil through your hair.
