Acne scars can develop on the skin as a result of damage to the surface layers of the skin caused by acne breakouts. These acne scars can be more dry and tough than the surrounding skin, and difficult to get rid of. In order to remove these acne scars, it is necessary to soak the skin in oil to soften the dead and discolored skin, scrub the skin with a gentle exfoliant to remove the softened dead skin, and apply a vitamin C solution to increase skin cell turnover.

Step 1

Soak your skin in a non-comedogenic oil that will soften and loosen dead and discolored skin cells. Pour 1 Tbsp. of olive oil into a small bowl, and use your fingers to smooth it onto your face. Use the palms of your hands to apply pressure to your skin, moving your hands in a circular motion. After one minute, use your fingers to apply deeper pressure to your skin, focusing on the areas with the most discoloration. After two more minutes, place a steaming hot washcloth over your skin to heat the oils and further loosen the skin. After the washcloth cools down, wipe off the oil. Repeat up to twice daily to loosen dead and discolored skin cells.

Step 2

Scrub off loosened skin cells by applying a gentle facial exfoliant, such as baking soda. Pour 1 Tbsp. of baking soda into a small bowl, and mix in 1 to 2 tsp. of water. Use your fingers to apply the mixture to your skin. Massage the baking soda mixture into your skin using circular movements. After two or three minutes, rinse off your skin with warm water. Repeat up to three times per week to remove loosened and scarred skin cells.

Step 3

Increase skin cell turnover by applying a vitamin C solution to the skin. Soak five or six disposable cotton pads in concentrated lemon juice, which is significantly high in vitamin C. Place the lemon juice-soaked cotton pads on your skin, spreading them out to cover all of the effected areas. After 5 to 10 minutes, remove the pads to let the skin dry naturally. Vitamin C helps increase the skin cell turnover, which supports developing skin cells in their growth. This improves the balance and tone of the complexion. Repeat up to three times per day.
