How to Recognize the Signs of Cheating Men

What was once a gut feeling has now turned into full-blown suspicion as he's coming home later and suddenly his phone requires an access code to get in. Perhaps this nagging feeling is more than a feeling, but talking to him gets you nowhere. There are several things to look for if you suspect your boyfriend or husband has been less than faithful to you. Recognizing the signs can help you to get to the bottom of what's really going on.

Step 1

Trust your instincts. If you care about this person, you will know when something feels different. It may be the way he looks at you or the time he's gone that no one can account for. If your instincts are trying to give you a warning, it's a good idea to listen and stay mindful.

Step 2

Take note of your recent sexual encounters together. A sudden change in frequency, whether it's more or less, can say a lot. He may be wanting you more out of guilt or to try to assuage your suspicions. If he's less interested it may be because he's getting it somewhere else.

Step 3

Beware of false accusations and misplaced jealousy. Often times a cheating male will try to blame you to cover up his own guilt. It isn't uncommon for a man's accusations to mirror his own sullied conscience.

Step 4

Look out for new e-mail accounts you don't have access to or other things that are suddenly locked or guarded. If you approach him about it and he doesn't have a reason that makes any sense, he may be hiding something from you. Watch for things like closing his laptop when you walk by and guarding his cell phone.

Step 5

Understand that stressful situations in life take a toll on relationships. If a stressful situation has presented itself and he's not talking to you about it, he may not be ready to or he's found another outlet to make himself feel better.

Tips and Warnings

  • These signs are merely indications of a possibility. There's no guarantee these indicate that he's cheating, physically or emotionally. Don't rush in and make accusations that you can't back up. If you suspect it, sit him down for a long talk about your relationship and where it's going.
