4 Ways to Go Trout Fishing

1. Fly Fish for Trout

Trout eat a lot of flies, most often mayflies, caddis flies and stoneflies. Fishermen find it challenging to have a trout caught on their line with a fly they made, called fly fishing. You need a special fly-fishing rod to bait your flies onto. They are lightweight and have special line to string.

2. Use Other Lures

Go trout fishing and attract the trout with a technique called spinner fishing. Use your lure of choice in the water and gather the fish to a certain location. Have the lure bump into things and then spin around the area. Use worms or other bait if there are not other baits available for you to use.

3. Fish the Pond, River or Stream

When fishing a pond for trout, use different techniques than fishing a river or stream. Trout fish are found in cool and clean, not muddy, water. You will use different bait on you fishing rod. Use native flies when fishing a stream or river for trout. Use a spinner fishing method to catch trout in a river, stream or pond. When fishing in a stream, walk softly up to the stream so as not to spook the fish. You can fish a stream or pond from the shore or purchase wading boots to wander into the water a bit, and for fishing a river, you use a boat or canoe.

4. Type of Trout

The type of trout you are looking for depends on how you will stalk your prey. If you are looking for a brook trout, they are the most active and the easiest to catch. They are good for beginners just learning how to cast their fly-fishing rod. Find brook trout in small to medium-sized streams near the headwaters or springs. Rainbow trout are native to cold streams and rivers. They are a challenge to catch because they flip their tail in the water. Catch rainbow trout with the most effective method, called spinning fishing. Catch a brown trout using mayflies and caddis flies. They are tricky to catch because they hide in water under tree overhangs. If they see your shadow, they will hide in the water for an hour or longer.
