How to Get Rid of Razor Bumps Naturally

Whether you are male or female, you may notice a burning sensation after shaving, then see small, red bumps around the affected area. The sensitive skin on your chin, neck, legs or pubic area may have become irritated as a result of shaving, causing ingrown hairs, red, irritated skin and razor bumps. Soothe these bumps naturally by applying hydrocortisone cream, an aspirin and water solution, and learning to shave sensitive areas correctly to prevent razor bumps in the future.

Step 1

Apply a hot washcloth or towel to the area before shaving. Wet a washcloth or towel with hot water, then apply to the area for one minute. Heat will help open the hair follicles, making hair easier to shave without irritating the skin.

Step 2

Shave in the direction of hair growth, suggests dermatologist, Anita Cela in "Cosmopolitan" magazine. Although it may take several passes of the razor to shave with the hair instead of against it, shaving in the direction of hair growth will prevent ingrown hairs and razor bumps because it is gentler on the skin.

Step 3

Apply a solution of aspirin and water in the morning and at night. To make the solution, dissolve three aspirin tablets in a glass of water, then stir the mixture. Wet the area with the mixture, using a sterile cotton ball. Aspirin will prevent swelling and ingrown hairs.

Step 4

Apply a thin layer of hydrocrotisone cream to the affected area once a day, suggests "Cosmopolitan" magazine. Hydrocortisone cream prevents swelling, itching and irritation.

Step 5

Shave less frequently. The more often you shave, the more irritated your skin will become. If possible, shave every other day or every few days at the most to keep skin irritation to a minimum.

Tips and Warnings

  • Avoid picking or scratching the affected area.
