Weight loss is based on calories in versus calories out. When you are cutting your intake, you need to take everything into consideration. This means food and liquid calories together. If you still like to drink alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages while obtaining your weight loss goal, there are several low-calorie drink options available.

Sugar-Free Drinks

Soda is a beverage that is notorious for adding pounds on the stomachs and legs of unsuspecting people nationwide. Although it has little if any fat, it still has a monstrous amount of calories from the high sugar content. A low-calorie version is diet soda. Diet sodas often have one calorie or no calories at all. The regular sugar is taken out of them and replaced with a substitute that has no impact on your blood sugar levels. You can also get diet versions of teas, fruit drinks and sport drinks.

Beer

Beer is a standby in the refrigerator of many football fans during the weekends. With college bowl games just days away, beer is sure to make an appearance on the first day of the year. Instead of going for the heavy, high octane beers, you can opt for a low-calorie version that comes in light form. These beers rarely cross the 100 calorie mark per 12 oz bottle.

Hot Chocolate

During winter, the winds start gusting and the snow starts falling in measurable amounts. These dark, frigid days call for a nice cup of hot chocolate to warm up the fingers and insides. To make a low-calorie option, you can use skim milk or water instead of whole milk. To lower the calories even more, you can leave out the marshmallows and drizzle the top with some low-fat whipped cream and cinnamon. A cup of hot chocolate prepared with skim milk can cost you as little as 150 calories.

Champagne

No new year would be brought in properly without the addition of champagne. This alcoholic beverage has fewer calories than wine and beer per 4 oz. serving. It weighs in at just under 90 calories.

Cranberry Spritzer

Cocktails can pack quite a caloric wallop. They often get mixed with one or more liquors, regular soda, fruit juices and high-sugar mixes. To spare yourself calories and have the satisfaction of drinking a cocktail, you can opt for vodka, diet cranberry juice and seltzer water. You can also forgo the regular cola for the diet variety when you mix it with rum.
