Diamox is a medication prescribed to manage glaucoma (a condition of high eye pressure) and altitude sickness. According to Drugs.com, it can also treat congestive heart failure and convulsions.

Features

According to Drugs.com, Diamox is a medication that belongs to the class of medications called carbonic anydrase inhibitors. It decreases carbonic anyhydrase, a substance in your body responsible for exacerbating the aforementioned conditions.

Use

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) indicates that Diamox is available as a tablet and a capsule. Typically, you will take this medication as your doctor prescribes.

Side Effects

Diamox's common side effects include vomiting, poor appetite and stomach problems. This medication may also cause painful urination, bleeding or bruising, confusion, headache, fever, seizures and a rash.

Generic Name

The generic name of Diamox is acetazolamide.

Overdose

Symptoms of Diamox overdose include nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, numbness or tingling and tinnitus (ringing of your ears). Call 911 because these effects are life-threatening.
