How to Cure Dandruff Fast

According to the Mayo Clinic, dandruff is considered to be a common and chronic skin condition. The most noticeable symptoms include itching and flaking of the scalp. This scalp condition is more bothersome than it is serious. Dandruff can be stubborn and may require persistent treatment.

Step 1

Pour a quarter of a cup of olive oil into a sauce pan on the stove. Heat it for one or two minutes. You do not want it to boil but instead just get slightly warm. Test the oil temperature before applying it to the scalp.

Step 2

Pour the oil back into the measuring cup or a small container that will be easy to pour onto your scalp. Step into the shower or wear a towel before applying the oil to the scalp. Dab a cotton ball into the oil and blot the scalp with it. For thicker and longer hair, pour the oil directly onto the scalp and massage it in with a hairbrush.

Step 3

Cover the head with a shower cap. Let the oil set for 20 to 30 minutes. Remove the cap and take a shower to remove the oil.

Step 4

Lather the scalp with a mild shampoo. Rinse the shampoo out, then reapply shampoo and massage the scalp. If daily mild shampooing does not improve your dandruff, it may be time to try a medicated shampoo specially formulated to treat dandruff.

Step 5

Apply hair conditioner to the scalp and hair. Allow the cream to set on the hair for three to five minutes. Rinse the hair thoroughly. Repeat these steps as necessary. A daily oil treatment is only necessary until the dandruff is under control. Once the dandruff has improved, the oil treatment may only be necessary when the flakes or dryness reappear.
