Children love birthday parties, especially their own. Toddlers often have favorite characters and activities that become natural themes for their first few birthdays. AmazingMoms.com suggests keeping preparations simple to avoid overwhelming your child. Keep the guest list small if possible, and keep your expectations realistic. Try to time the party so that your little girl is not tired or hungry when the guests are arriving to avoid meltdowns. Most of all, enjoy considering and implementing your party ideas for a toddler girl.
Ladybug Party
Little girls are often enchanted by ladybugs and their red and black markings. Throw your toddler a ladybug party for her special day. Frost cupcakes with red icing, and add Junior Mints candies, chocolate chips or brown M&Ms for the spots. FamilyFun magazine suggests playing "pin the spot on the ladybug," which is a spinoff of "pin the tail on the donkey." Make a large poster board ladybug without her spots, and give each child a round black dot to stick on her back. For an activity, read "The Grouchy Ladybug," by Eric Carle, and let the little girls decorate their own felt or construction paper ladybugs.
Color Party
Many toddlers are learning their colors and would love to share and improve their knowledge at a rainbow-themed party. Provide your guests with solid color paper plates and cups in all different shades. Give them sidewalk chalk to color with outside or crayons and paper for an inside party. A plain white paper tablecloth will give them ample room to create a masterpiece. Blow bubbles with the children, and have them identify the pastel shades that they can see in the bubbles. Decorate cupcakes in all different colors, and allow each child to choose his favorite.
Tea Party
Many little girls love to dress up and have tea parties. FamilyFun magazine suggests throwing a tea party for your 3- or 4-year-old and her friends. Have the girls wear their own dresses, or provide some from your daughter's costume box. Give each child a tiara or crown to wear, and offer a selection of feather boas, glittery costume jewelry and shiny high heels to wear. Serve small sandwiches on fancy paper napkins and lemonade in toy teacups. Have the girls make paper fans decorated with sequins and bits of lace doilies to keep themselves pleasantly cool. After the party, help your daughter refine her social graces by assisting her in writing thank-you notes.
