You can help promote hair growth using jojoba oil and essential oils, including rosemary, bay, basil, lavender and chamomile. Jojoba oil is similar to the body's sebum, which is naturally produced on the scalp. Essential oils are extracted from plants, flowers and herbs and used in aromatherapy, in which you dilute the essential oils in carrier oils and apply them to the skin and hair. Experiment with different blends to see what your hair responds to best. In many cases, you can wear the hair oil treatment overnight or use a smaller amount and wear throughout the day.
Step 1
Combine 4 oz. of jojoba oil in a dark-colored glass container with 10 drops rosemary, 10 drops of lavender and five drops of basil. According to Aromatherapy-at-home.com, this hair oil blend will keep your hair healthy and thick. Apply to clean hair at night, and wrap in a towel or apply to dry hair and comb through.
Step 2
Try other hair oil blends using a combination of olive, coconut or jojoba oil and other essential oils. For example, start with 2 oz. of olive, coconut and jojoba oil in a dark-colored glass container. Add five to seven drops of three to five of the following essential oils: cedarwood, rosemary, lavender, bay, chamomile, sage, clary sage or jasmine absolute. Apply to clean, damp hair and leave in overnight or apply to clean, dry hair during the day, working it evenly throughout.
Step 3
Moisturize your hair with one oil and one to three essential oils. For example, take 2 to 3 tbsp. of coconut, jojoba or olive oil and add three to five drops of rosemary, lavender, tea tree or sage essential oil. Rub between your palms and apply to clean, damp hair. Leave in overnight. The next day, allow to air dry and style without heated styling tools. Cover with a headscarf to allow the deep conditioning to work. Later, shampoo and condition.
