One of the most commonly diagnosed disorders in children is attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The disorder is characterized by children who exhibit symptoms of impulsiveness, inattention and over-activity and are often aggressive, poor learners and disruptive. Some people claim that ADHD is a brain disorder with a genetic component, and others claim its source is damage from vaccination. ADHD is generally treated with pharmaceutical drugs, which must be closely monitored and can be toxic to children under the age of six, according to the Healing Center On-Line. The October 1997 "British Homeopathic Journal" reported on a double-blind cross-over study on the effects of homeopathic medicines for the treatment of ADHD in children. The results were significant, demonstrating that homeopathic treatment is effective for managing ADHD.
Stramonium
Stramonium is effective in children who have numerous fears or who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PSTD). They may also be horribly afraid of the dark, the sound of thunder and of being left alone. These children also are known to have night terrors, according to William Boericke in his book "Materia Medica and Repertory."
Cina
Children who are physically aggressive, highly irritable, nasty, cross, contrary and don't want to be touched may benefit from Cina, according to Frans Vermeulen in his book "Synoptic Materia Medica I." A well-known characteristic of the person needing Cina is the tendency to stiffen the entire body during attacks of anger or when being looked at or touched.
Hyoscyamus
Children who express sexualized symptoms respond well to Hyoscyamus, according to the Healing Center On-Line. These children also have a tendency toward being liars, are jealous and are often the class clown, disrupting whatever is going on around them in an effort to gain attention. They tend to have poor impulse control and may be extremely talkative.
Baryta Carbonica
Children who need Baryta Carbonica tend to be emotionally and physically immature and are slow learners, according to Boericke. They are sweet and timid. They are often self-conscious and shy. They can have various glandular disorders and frequent sore throats with very swollen tonsils.
Helleborus
Helleborus is used to treat children who feel that they are stupid and unable to cope with all that goes on in life, according to the Healing Center On-Line. They tend to be sluggish mentally and dull, not responding well to stimulus. They can be easily angered, may have had a previous head injury, and are averse to making any effort.
Lycopodium
This remedy is generally used for children who act like bullies and also have little self-esteem and self-confidence, notes Vermeulen. They can be bossy and aggressive with those they are close to, such as family and friends, and then become self-conscious and shy in public. They fear public speaking, for instance, dislike being called on in class, confuse words and letters, have difficulties with mathematical problems and are often dyslexic.
Tarentula Hispania
The child needing Tarentula Hispania is often wildly frenzied in his actions, exhibiting aggravated behavior when music is playing, and feeling he doesn't have enough time to get a project completed, explains the Healing Center On-Line. He may be extremely active physically, aggressive, restless and hurried. This is the child that as an infant is a climber and has been known to climb out of his crib.
