Tips on Losing a Fat Face

The face is just as prone to weight gain as any other bodily location. As a matter of fact, it is often the first place that weight gain is seen. When it comes to losing a fat face, you need to treat the situation like you would losing weight at any other part of your body.

Sodium Reduction

Sodium is a nutrient that the body needs for heart beat rhythm and electrolyte balance. But an overdose of sodium can cause your blood pressure to elevate. When it comes to your face, excessive sodium can make it look puffy. This is because sodium causes water retention in the body. To promote a leaner face, avoid foods that are high in sodium such as soy sauce, canned soups, frozen dinners and salty snacks.

Water Intake

Water is a necessary nutrient that helps keep the body hydrated, it helps fill you up when you drink it with meals, and it can help the appearance of your skin. When it comes to your face, it can help reduce water retention by flushing impurities out of your system. According to the Institute of Medicine, women should get approximately 2.7 total liters of water a day and men should get approximately 3.7 liters.

Diet

A diet high in fat, sugar and overall calories can lead to weight gain. This can be seen throughout your whole body, including your face. To lose the face fat, your diet should be composed of nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, lean meats, whole grains and beans. To promote weight loss, you can cut your daily intake by 250 to 500 calories.

Weight Training

Weight training builds muscle. Muscle is metabolically active tissue that can increase your caloric expenditure when you are resting. This can have an impact on the fat over your whole body. You should do exercises that target all of your major muscle groups, such as bench presses, upright rows, bent-over rows, triceps dips, biceps curls and lunges. Aim for three to four sets of each of ten to 12 reps, and work out two to three times a week.

Cardio

Cardiovascular exercise burns calories all over your whole body. In order to lose the face fat, this element of exercise is a must. Aim for 45 to 60 minutes of cardio three to four times a week. You can do anything that you find enjoyable, such as running, biking, elliptical training, swimming, rowing, kickboxing or jumping rope.

Facial Exercises

Specific facial exercises can be utilized to help strengthen the facial muscles and create definition. As an added benefit, they can help prevent wrinkles by making the skin more taut. An example of a facial exercise is an air hold. To do this, close your lips and push air under your bottom lip. Hold it there for five to ten seconds, then move it to your upper lip, left cheek, right cheek and whole mouth for the same time frame. Repeat the exercise five to ten times.
