How to Lower a Man's Libido

Sexual libido is another term for sexual desire. It controls how often someone wants sex, sexual stamina and the amount of time an erection can be maintained. Some men suffer from low libido; however, information on high libido in men is sometimes overlooked. Higher libido in men can make them feel out of control and cause problems in a relationship, making his partner feel as if she cannot satisfy him. This can lead to arguments, and even breakups. There are steps that can be taken to lower a higher-than-normal male libido.

Step 1

Consult a sex therapist with your partner, or solo if you are unattached. A therapist can help you understand the reasons behind your increased libido and give you mental exercises to decrease it.

Step 2

Eat more soy. Soy is used by some monks to keep down sexual urges and distractions. Soy decreases high testosterone levels that are responsible for libido health in men.

Step 3

Take a daily supplement containing chasteberry. Chasteberry has a chemical compound that will decrease high libido and is another way that some monks control sexual urges.

Step 4

Consult your physician about any medications that you are taking. Some medications such as hormone therapies for men increase testosterone, therefore increasing sexual drive in men. Alternatives to this therapy may be available.

Step 5

Avoid stress. In some instances instead of decreasing sexual urges, stress can increase them, making sex an outlet to let go of frustrations. Stress reduction can return libido to normal.
