Finding a good sippy cup means eliminating the need to constantly clean up drips and messes all over the house. Sippy cups come in many different sizes, shapes and styles; some more user-friendly than others. The best sippy cups are those that do not leak, are easy to assemble and hold up well through countless encounters with a toddler's new teeth.
Playtex Insulator
As one of the most widely available sippy options, Playtex hit a home run with this cup. The cup itself is insulted, which Playtex claims helps keep the drink cold two times longer than with a non-insulated cup. The insulation also prevents the cup from sweating, which could be a big problem for moms who throw the cup in the diaper bag or their purse. To ease parents' concerns, Playtex Insulated sippy's are BPA-Free (BPA is a controversial additive to plastic which is known to leak out into the contents of the container). These cups are easy to assemble, only three parts to deal with, the cup, lid and a rubber valve that pops easily in and out. Easy to wash, leak free and easy for toddlers to hold, these cups have it all.
The Safe Sippy
Designed by a company called Kid Basix, the Safe Sippy looks more like a space age water bottle than a sippy cup. This cup is made of stainless steel with a plastic spout, handles and lid, though all of the plastic components are free of BPA. Unlike traditional sippy cups, the Safe Sippy has a straw like spout which Kid Basix claims is safer for children and the development of their mouth and speech patterns. This cup also has a rubberized sleeve which helps provide insulation, and protection if dropped. The Safe Sippy is leak-proof and easy to use making it an excellent cup for parents who want a stainless steel option.
BornFree Trainer Cup
Babies learning to transition from the breast or bottle to a sippy cup can benefit from the BornFree Trainer cup. As another BPA-free alternative, this cup features a soft spout which is a mixture between a bottle nipple and a sippy spout. Older babies are able to transition more easily with this type spout due to the softness. This cup remains leak-free except when the spout is compressed. An inner valve works to vent the air out, but not prevent leaks. The BornFree Trainer is best used for younger toddlers. Once a child gets old enough to hold the cup by the spout, it will leak. However, BornFree also created a drinking cup with a rigid spout to prevent this from happening.
