If your skin is a combination of both oily and dry skin, it can be especially challenging to clear acne without causing irritation or breakouts. The main concern is to balance the skin and dry out oily patches without overdrying normal or dry areas. Luckily, there are a few products that can clear combination skin effectively.
Soap for Sensitive Skin Types
Soap made for sensitive skin will cleanse the skin without causing it to become dried out or irritated, making it a good choice for combination skin. It's important to avoid scrubbing your skin too hard, and to rinse thoroughly. Use soap for sensitive skin twice a day to clean combination skin.
Low Concentration Benzoyl Peroxide Cream
Benzoyl peroxide cream is a highly effective acne treatment that dries up pustules, and can be purchased in different strengths, including 2.5, 5 and 10 percent. For combination skin, use the 2.5 percent concentration to clear your skin without drying it out excessively. Smooth a pea-sized amount onto the skin with the fingers, and gently spread it around until it has been absorbed. Use the benzoyl peroxide cream twice a day, after cleansing. Avoid rubbing the cream into the skin, which can cause irritation.
Oil-Free Lotion for Sensitive Skin
It's important to use a moisturizer, even for oily or combination skin. If you're using benzoyl peroxide, following up with a moisturizer will minimize its drying effects. Use an oil-free moisturizer that is designed for sensitive skin twice a day--it won't clog your pores or cause irritation. Spread on a dime-sized amount of moisturizer after treating the skin with benzoyl peroxide to help soften and clear the skin. Do not rub the moisturizer into the skin, simply glide the fingers over the face until the moisturizer has been absorbed.
