Herbs for More Hair Volume

You can increase hair volume by using several herbs, including stinging nettle (Urtica diocia), green tea, ginkgo biloba, He Shou Wu (Fo Ti or Polygonum multiflorum), channeled wrack (Pelvetia canaliculata extract), pygeum and saw palmetto.
These herbs have antioxidant properties to help protect hair and prevent hair loss. Some of these herbs are found in shampoos or can be consumed as herbal teas or supplements found in health food stores or purchased online.

Stinging Nettle and Channeled Wrack Shampoos

Find shampoos made with stinging nettle and channeled wrack. Stinging nettle can help prevent testosterone converting into DHT, which leads to hair thinning and less hair volume. You might also consume stinging nettle herbal teas or as an herbal supplement.
Channeled wrack is a type of seaweed, Phaeophyta, and has isoflavones and antioxidants believed to promote hair growth.

Green Tea and Ginkgo Biloba

Green tea (Camellia sinesis) and ginkgo biloba are familiar to many people. Green tea contains catechins that may lessen the amount of alpha-5 reductase that contributes to hair loss and less hair volume. Drinking green tea provides antioxidants to protect hair; ginkgo, in traditional Chinese medicine, is believed to provide more blood flow and nutrients to the scalp to keep hair healthy.

Pygeum and Saw Palmetto

Add pygeum (Pygeum africanum) and saw palmetto (Seranoa repens) herbal supplements to help keep hair thick and healthy. Pygeum has similar antioxidant qualities as green tea to protect hair, and saw palmetto is believed to slow normal hair loss.
