People with oily skin can often experience a clogging of the pores and acne breakouts. This is due to the fact that the excess oil and sebum combine with bacteria and impurities, which then become trapped in the pores. While it seems logical to treat acne breakouts on oily skin with benzoyl peroxide cream, which is designed to dry up oil and acne on the skin, it is more effective to follow a routine that balances the oil production in the face.
Step 1
Purge the pores of impurities, and balance out the oil production in the skin by applying an olive oil skin treatment. Pour 1 tbsp. of olive oil into the hands, and smooth it onto the skin using rhythmic, circular hand movements. After two minutes, use the fingers to apply deeper pressure to the area that contain the most blackheads or acne breakouts. After another two minutes, lean over a bowl full of nearly boiling water, and cover the head with a towel. Steam will envelope the face, forcing open the pores and releasing trapped oils and bacteria. After five minutes, wipe the excess oil from the skin, leaving behind a deeply hydrated, deeply clean complexion.
Step 2
Remove dead skin and bacteria by applying a naturally exfoliating skin scrub. In a bowl, combine 2 tbsp. of baking soda, 2 tbsp. of honey and 2 tbsp. of raw oats. Spread the mixture onto moistened skin, and massage it into the skin for three minutes. After the allotted time has passed, wipe off the facial scrub into a waste container, then rinse off the skin well with warm water. Use a natural, exfoliating facial scrub up to three times per week to keep the skin free of pore-clogging bacteria and dead skin cells.
Step 3
Spot treat active acne breakouts by applying tea tree oil, which is just as effective as benzoyl peroxide cream, but without causing the skin to become irritated or damaged. Soak a cotton ball in pure tea tree oil, then dip it quickly into and out of water. This dilutes the tea tree oil so that it can be applied directly to the skin. Dab the diluted tea tree oil onto the active blemishes, allowing it to soak in and dry onto the skin. Tea tree oil can be reapplied to the skin up to three times per day to kill off acne-causing bacteria and to dry up acne pustules.
