Acne scars appear when acne pustules have been picked and popped too frequently, leaving behind discolored, dry and hard spots on the face. Even when the active acne breakouts have cleared up, acne scarring can remain on the face for months. This can make the complexion appear speckled, blotchy and uneven. In order to deal with these acne scars, it is necessary to soften the scarred skin, exfoliate the softened scar tissues, and apply a toner that will rebuild new skin cells.
Step 1
Soften acne scars by soaking the skin in olive oil. Spread 1 to 2 Tbsp. of olive oil onto the skin, and use the fingers to massage it in. Use small, circular movements with the fingers. Olive oil will not clog the pores, so it can be applied to the skin without causing more acne breakouts.
Step 2
Stop massaging the oil in after three to four minutes, and allow the oil to sit on the skin. After five more minutes, soak a washcloth in hot water, and squeeze the water out of it.
Step 3
Drape the washcloth over your face, letting the steam penetrate the pores and soften the skin further. Once the cloth cools, use it to wipe off the olive oil. Use an olive oil soak twice per day.
Step 4
Scrub off scarred tissues by applying a baking soda exfoliator. Pour 2 Tbsp. of baking soda into a bowl, then pour 1 Tbsp. of water onto it. Use your fingers to mix the two substances together, effectively making a paste. Spread the paste onto the skin, and use the fingers to massage in onto the areas of scarring. This will remove the dead, scarred skin cells that the olive oil softened.
Step 5
Rinse off the baking soda with water after one to two minutes. Use a baking soda scrub twice per day.
Step 6
Rebuild new skin cells by applying a toner with a high vitamin C content. Soak 5 cotton pads in concentrated lemon juice, which has a very high vitamin C content, and place them onto your skin.
Step 7
Place one lemon-juice-soaked pad onto your chin, one on each cheek and two on your forehead. After five to 10 minutes, take off the cotton pads, and let the skin dry. The vitamin C in the lemon juice will encourage the production of new skin cells, effectively balancing out the complexion after the skin has been exfoliated. Use a lemon juice toner twice per day.
