There is no magic solution to have long, flowing locks overnight. For most people, genetics determines that hair can grow a maximum of six inches each year. Taking the proper steps to keep your hair healthy is the best way to help your hair grow to your desired length as fast as possible.
Step 1
Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet. Having adequate nutrition in your body ensures that your hair is getting nourishment as well. Avoid eating foods that are high in sugar or fat. Eliminate smoking, caffeine and carbonated drinks. Include healthy proteins, such as fish, tofu, eggs, beans, or yogurt, and plenty of fruits and vegetables as a part of your daily eating regimen.
Step 2
Take a vitamin every day. Zinc and biotin in particular are two nutrients that hair likes and helps it grow in strong. Don't spend a lot of money on expensive "hair-growing" vitamins. Taking a basic daily vitamin provides a sufficient amount of nutrients for the desired benefits.
Step 3
Wash and condition your hair with a high-quality salon product. Talk to your stylist about what is recommended for your personal hair type. Although these products cost a bit more, they're worth the money because they don't contain many of the ingredients, such as silicon or ammonium laurel sulfate, that can promote hair damage. Also, wash hair in the coolest water possible to protect the hair shaft and follicles.
Step 4
Use care when styling your hair. Gently comb the knots from your hair and don't over-brush, which can damage individual strands. When possible, allow your hair to air-dry. If you must use a blow dryer, wait until your hair is mostly dry before beginning. Don't use flat irons or crimpers unless necessary, and avoid curling irons and hot rollers when possible. Consider using a product to protect your hair from heat when you use any of these styling tools.
Step 5
Get adequate sleep at night. Having too much stress can stunt the growth of your hair. Participate in meditation or relaxation exercises to help reduce excess stress and improve hair-growing potential. Also, getting enough sleep at night--seven to nine hours--has been shown to help hair grow at its fastest.
Step 6
Get regular trims to your hair to remove split ends or other damage. Damage to the hair can only be fixed by being removed and will move up the strand of hair if it isn't cut off.
Step 7
Do not regularly style your hair in tight hairstyles. These can pull out or damage strands of hair and have even been known to cause bald patches. Instead, consider a looser style, held with ponytail holders or clips that are made to be safe for hair, that won't break or pull out strands of hair.
