Step-by-Step Instructions for an Ionic Foot Bath

The ionic foot bath device is an electrical or battery-operated water detoxification device that utilizes a metal array and the combination of water and salt. Developers of these devices claim that it can draw out impurities and toxins from the pores of feet via osmosis. It's believed that all toxins are negatively charged, and the foot detoxification claims to work by creating a positive charge when feet are immersed in a water-filled plastic basin with the addition of iodized salt (table salt). According to the developers, using an ionic foot bath every day can help your body remove toxins while giving you more energy.

Step 1

Clean the plastic basin you'll use, using water and dishwashing liquid. Avoid using harsh bathroom cleaners and bleach; any trace amount of chemicals found in these products can interfere with ionization. Set aside the basin to air dry. Do not use fabric or tissues to wipe the basin. The tiny fibers can stick to the array module.

Step 2

Connect all cords to the ionic foot machine. If your device is operated by batteries, turn on the unit and check the battery gauge to ensure it can last one hour. Your unit should alarm if the batteries fall low.

Step 3

Pour clean water in the plastic basin you'll use to submerge your feet in.

Step 4

Immerse the ionic array module into the plastic basin. Make sure the array module is completely immersed in the water.

Step 5

Wash your feet with soap and water to get rid of skin oils and dirt. These particles can stick to the array and interfere with the ionization process.

Step 6

Take off any metal objects you are wearing before submerging your feet in the basin. These include watches, cell phones, belts and jewelry, all of which interfere with ionization.

Step 7

Switch on the device and set the timer for one hour. All ionic foot bath machines have a built-in digital timer located in the control panel.

Step 8

Sit on a chair with your back straight and immerse your feet in the basin. Add 1/2 tbsp. of iodized salt to the water. This is said to enhance the ionization process. Slowly swish your feet around to mix the salt in the water. You'll start to notice the water changing colors in about one minute. These color changes correspond to specific areas of your body being detoxified. Make sure to read the color interpretation chart that came with your ionic foot device to figure out what part of your body is being detoxified.

Step 9

Take your feet out of the basin when the timer rings and wash them with soap and water. Rinse the basin and array module under clean running water after you're done washing your feet. Continue using the ionic foot bath for the next two to three weeks but no more than twice daily.
