How to Lower My Libido

For psychological or medical reasons, it's sometimes important to have a lower libido than you currently possess. Religious beliefs, being away from a partner or finding yourself addicted to sex can be reasons for needing to dial down your sex drive. In other cases, unhealthy sexual urges can demand a decrease in libido. Regardless of the reason, however, you can lower your libido in a variety of safe ways.

Step 1

Ask your doctor about an anti-androgen drug to lower your libido if your high sex drive has a physical cause. Drugs like Depo Provera work to make testosterone less effective in the male body and can virtually make your sex drive nonexistent.

Step 2

Stay awake longer. While not recommended for your overall health, becoming fatigued from lack of sleep is a prime cause of a lowered sex drive. This can be a natural way to decrease your libido without too many serious effects on your body.

Step 3

Consult a doctor about medication to reduce your libido. Often, drugs for anxiety, depression and blood pressure list a decreased libido as a prominent side effect. Take such a drug only if your doctor determines it is right for you, however.

Step 4

Drink a glass of wine each night. This will make you relaxed and sleepy and less interested in having sex than you otherwise would have been.
