How to Change a Horizon Fitness Treadmill Belt

The treadmill walking or running belt is the most important part of the machine. Without a movable belt, you might as well go outside for a jog. Replacing a Horizon Fitness treadmill belt is relatively simple. You can purchase a new belt for a fraction of the price of purchasing a new treadmill and you can likely do the repair yourself. Be sure to center and lubricate the belt when you replace it or you'll likely need to do another belt swap sooner than expected.

Step 1

Turn the treadmill off with the on/off switch on the deck and unplug the power cord. It is dangerous to work on the treadmill when it is on because it is possible to get shocked.

Step 2

Unscrew the screws on the side of the motor cover at the front of the treadmill deck with a Phillips head screwdriver. Lift the motor cover free.

Step 3

Remove the two end caps and the guide rails at the back of the deck by unscrewing the single screw that holds each end cap on and gently pulling the end caps off.

Step 4

Mark the placement of the rear roller tension bolts on the sides of the deck underneath where the end caps were. Use a piece of tape.

Step 5

Remove the rear tension bolts with a wrench and take out the rear roller.

Step 6

Use a piece of tape to mark the placement of the front tension bolts. Remove the front right rear tension bolt.

Step 7

Take out the RPM sensor located on the right side of the treadmill deck approximately in line with the front roller.

Step 8

Lift out the front roller.

Step 9

Use a wrench to take out the deck bolts on the right side only. Slide the belt off of the deck. Only remove all of the deck bolts if you are also going to replace the deck, in which case you'll lift up the deck and slide the belt off to the right side before putting a new deck in place.

Step 10

Slide the new belt onto the deck. Replace the deck bolts and tighten with a wrench.

Step 11

Put the front roller and tension bolts back in place and tighten.

Step 12

Put the rear roller and tension bolts back in place, but do not tighten the bolts completely yet.

Step 13

Lubricate the deck with two bottles of silicone oil.

Step 14

Tighten the tension bolts back to their original tension as marked by the tape.

Step 15

Place the RPM sensor back into position.

Step 16

Plug the treadmill back into the wall and turn the switch on. Allow the treadmill belt to run for 15 minutes for proper distribution of lubrication.
