Becoming a first-time grandma is a special event and should be celebrated. The occasion should be recognized by a special gift or treat, just as a new mother deserves special recognition. Most grandmas have given away or sold all their baby equipment from their own parenting years by the time they have a grandchild. There's a good chance the equipment they do have is outdated or unsafe for the future grandchild. Gifts that pamper the first-time grandma or that make her life easier while caring for her new grand baby will all be appreciated and enjoyed.
Baby Equipment and Supplies
Consider purchasing a multiple-component portable crib for the new arrival to use when visiting grandma. These systems come with mesh sides, a soft, washable, vinyl bottom and will keep baby contained for a couple of years after birth. These portable cribs fold into small carrying bags and are easy to move around as needed.
The fancier systems include a bassinet that hooks over a play-pen top and provides a safe and cozy sleeping area for a smaller baby. They also include a changing table complete with storage compartments, which also serves the new grandma and baby well. Mobiles, music boxes and vibrating functions are just a few optional perks available for the portable crib.
Baby swings, bouncers, a stroller and miscellaneous baby supplies are always appreciated and much valued by a first-time grandma. Products change constantly, and it can be hard for a new grandma to find her way around the necessary new items. A basic supply of diapers, wipes, bottles and a layette will allow the first-time grandma to offer baby care with ease.
Digital Picture Frame
A grandma who lives far from her new grand baby will love to receive a digital picture frame. The frame can sit on a mantle, side table or desk and allows the grandparents to view new pictures as they're uploaded. The pictures change or rotate on a regular basis, allowing the grandparents or their guests to watch the constant slide show.
Pictures can be uploaded from multiple locations. Future grand kids' photos can be added and sent from whatever corner of the world the family lives in. The new grandma will enjoy waking up to the surprise of new photos and seeing them appear throughout the day.
Visit Trip
Another wonderful gift for the faraway first-time grandma would be a ticket or gift of transportation to visit the new baby. If the baby's parents don't have space in their home for a grandparent's visit, paid hotel room fees and gift cards for local restaurants will allow grandma to be close by while not being an imposition to her children.
Most new mothers love having the grandma around for guidance and assistance while the family adjusts to the new baby. This gift does the double-duty of blessing the new mother and father, too. The extra set of hands and arms will be much appreciated when the baby cries all night and mom and dad need a rest.
